Biography
Dr Tamara Bromley is a Lecturer, Curtin University, teaching in literacy and early childhood education, and is currently Course Coordinator for the Bachelor of Education-Early Childhood Education. She has over 25 years experience in schools, including as a School Leader, Literacy Specialist Teacher and early childhood education teacher. She has also worked in early childhood and literacy education at a state-wide level in education, and was previously a Speech Pathologist. After completing a PhD that investigated literacy policy enactment, Tamara's research interests continue to include educational policy, literacy and early childhood education.

Biography
Hayley Harrison has worked as a classroom teacher, coach, leading teacher, and educational consultant for over 20 years. She is a seasoned and passionate presenter on the topics of whole-school literacy, curriculum development, and English-specific content (particularly the mechanics and foundational skills of writing). Hayley has authored the 'Connecting Literacy' student folios, the 'VCE English and EAL' textbook series, and her latest publication, 'Connecting Whole School Literacy in the Secondary Context' synthesises the work she does with schools developing the key understandings, processes and resources required for secondary schools to build literacy capacity in their unique contexts.

Beyond Readiness: Rethinking Early Literacy Through Children’s Meaning-Making and Agency
Biography
Sweety Khandakar is a Lead Educator with G8 Education in Western Australia and an Education Assistant supporting secondary students requiring targeted literacy intervention within the Department of Education. She is currently completing a Master of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) at Curtin University. Working across early childhood and high school contexts has deepened her understanding of how strong early literacy foundations influence later academic success. Her practice focuses on recognising and extending children’s oral language, storytelling and symbolic expression to build confident, capable readers and writers.

Biography
Jo is an experienced Early Childhood Teacher and Educational Leader at the Excellent-rated Evelyn Scott Preschool, bringing over 25 years of teaching experience across Australia and internationally. As a founding member of the preschool team in 2021, she helped establish a culture inspired by Reggio Emilia principles, where children, families, and communities are active partners in learning. Jo contributes to the broader sector through professional presentations on pedagogy, leadership, and the evolving role of play. She recently completed her Master of Early Childhood at Macquarie University, further deepening a career grounded in reflection, research, and continuous professional growth.

Reimagining Early Learning: The Motivational Power of Augmented Reality
Biography
Cassina Tawhai is a Technical Officer in the School of Education, specialising in digital technologies and innovative learning design. She holds a Master of Forensic Science Professional Practice, where her thesis developed a VR learning environment to train forensic officers in simulated crime scenes. Currently completing a Master of Education, Cassina is expanding her expertise into early childhood education with a focus on emerging technologies. She also leads creative workshops from early childhood to Year 10, using recycled materials to foster loose parts play, imagination, and hands‑on problem‑solving.
