Multimodal expositions - understanding persuasive multimodal genres

Biography

Jennifer Asha is a literacy educator with a passion for helping children become literate in technologically and visually rich environments. She has been involved in several publications and research projects in these areas. She is a lecturer at the Australian Catholic University, teaching undergraduate and post graduate literature and literacy units. Jennifer was the author of The potential of the visual: Teaching literacy with multimodal texts published by Primary English Association Australia. She is currently working on further publications that share her PhD research into student meaning construction with persuasive multimodal texts.

Biography

Allison Bell is a lecturer at Murdoch University in the School of Education. She has fifteen years experience as a classroom teacher and Visual Arts specialist and eight years within the Tertiary education system. Allison has a PhD in Colour and Affect, BA Education (Primary), BA English and Creative Arts and BA (1st class Honours) in Theatre and Drama. As a practicing visual artist, Allison is highly passionate about arts-based practices and arts education.

Biography

Katherine Stevens is a PhD candidate and academic at Murdoch University whose research interests include arts-based educational practices, student wellbeing and motivation, educational transitions and positive psychology. As an experienced classroom teacher with a strong performing arts background, Katherine is passionate about building positive, inclusive communities of learners and harnessing the power of the arts and literacy to promote a lifelong love of learning in young people.
