Biography

With expertise in digital literacies and authentic assessment, KIm advocates for approaches to literacy teaching that recognise children’s everyday digital skills and foreground children’s voices in debates about AI, gaming cultures, and online spaces. She has contributed to internationally funded research with UNICEF and the LEGO Group, including participation in the development of the RITEC digital wellbeing framework. Kim’s commentary bridges research and public debate, offering evidence‑based insights into how digital literacies can shape more equitable and sustainable futures for children. Kim seeks to create meaningful learning and play experiences that support equity, wellbeing, and sustainable futures for children.

Biography

Kelly Carabott is a researcher and educator at Monash University's Faculty of Education. Her research spans multimodal and critical literacy, digital technologies, picturebook pedagogy, school-university partnerships, and teacher professional learning. She co-edits Literacy Learning: The Middle Years and has published widely with leading journals and international publishers including Routledge, Springer, and SAGE.

Unlocking a literary experience through sensory engagement with interactive digital picture books

Biography

Christine Oughtred is a member of the National Awards Committee of the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA). She is passionate about sharing quality literature in all forms. Her past professional experience includes primary teaching and librarianship in both the public library and tertiary education sectors. Her curiosity about the potential for excellence in interactive digital stories led to a recently completed PhD from Deakin University focusing on interactive digital picture books including virtual reality experiences, augmented reality picture books and picture book apps.
