Radical School Librarianship: A Global Response

Biography

Martha Itzcovitz is a Teacher Librarian and President of The Australian School Library Association (ASLA). Martha has worked as a Teacher Librarian in both secondary and primary school libraries across both girls’ and boys’ education and is currently the Years 3- 6 Teacher Librarian at Pymble Ladies' College. Martha is dedicated to fostering lifelong reading engagement for her students and creating a dynamic and inclusive reading culture in her school. She is a passionate advocate for authentic representation of diversity in literature, particularly for children. Martha earned a Bachelor of Education in Teacher Librarianship and a Master of Educational Psychology.

The Influence of Rural School Libraries on Reading Motivation, Wellbeing, and Pedagogy in Eastern Indonesia

Biography

Nila Tanzil is a PhD Candidate at Curtin University and a Learning Success Advisor at Curtin University Library. She founded Taman Bacaan Pelangi (Rainbow Reading Gardens), a non-profit that has established more than 260 school libraries across 18 islands in Eastern Indonesia and trained over 10,000 teachers. Her leadership in literacy and library development has been recognised through multiple awards, including Forbes Indonesia's Inspiring Women 2015, EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2016, GlobeAsia's 99 Most Inspiring Women 2019. Nila is a published author and an Eisenhower Fellow, committed to expanding equitable access to books and reading opportunities for children.
