The "Managing Fatigue" conference series is an established and respected forum for research updates and discussions within the fatigue management community. First convened in 1993, this event was influenced by the insights of FMCSA's Robert Carroll, Associate Professor Laurence Hartley, and Transport Canada's Sesto Vespa and Valerie Gil. The meeting was most recently held in San Diego in March 2017. Each conference has primarily focused on the effects of fatigue in the transportation sector and has involved support from government, industry, and academia. As an evolving conference series, sectors beyond transportation – including natural resources, mining, healthcare, and the military – have played an important role in the event.
